Speech by Chairman of the VA Committee Requests more Funding

The Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, recently spoke on the Senate floor, requesting additional funding for veteran care. In his speech, the Senator pointed out that there is a new wave of demands now, because older veterans are making use of the system and younger veterans have a whole new set of needs from the system, including mental health needs. These needs include treatment for post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse disorder and other mental health issues that impact their ability to work, nurture family relationships and be a part of society.

The new budget addresses money for VA family members, noting that they are the primary caregivers for disabled veterans, and Rehabilitation Centers for the severely injured. The new budget also addresses all injuries, from widespread hearing damage and traumatic brain injury, to burn injuries, depression and eye damage.
